Phill Jupitus
Phill Jupitus is a Festival favourite who is making his long-awaited return to Galway for #GCF23 as our Artist in Residence. While he is well known as a stand-up comedian, actor, and broadcaster, Phill is also something of a comedic renaissance man, as he is a skilled cartoonist (his cartoons appeared in NME, Time Out, Radio Times, and The Guardian), and artist.
Indeed, art paved the way for the great man’s entry into comedy. “It was the thing that got me into show business,” he told The Sunday Post. “I used to do cartoons and design work for music fanzines, that got me into writing poetry then performing then comedy then broadcasting.”
Phill is currently studying for a degree in fine art at the Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art, Dundee University, and he has curated collections for ArtUK.org. It is these skills Galway will see in action when Phill returns this October.
Sketch Comic
For his solo show, 'Sketch Comic', Phill will interview a comedian, while he and the audience sketch what they see.
