John Bishop
From chat show host to Dr Who ally to documentary presenter, John Bishop is a man of many talents, but stand-up comedy is where he shines best and brightest.
One of the biggest names in UK comedy, the Liverpudlian is also one of the best loved comedians on the circuit, and he may have Ireland to thank for his success. As he once said: “Ireland is probably the reason that I do the job I do. When I started doing stand-up I came to Ireland and I just sort of gelled with the idea of doing it the way I do - telling stories.”
A working class hero, with an accent to match, much of Bishop’s appeal lies in just how relatable he, and his material is. “I love pure joke-tellers,” he said, “but if I go to see a comedian for a full show, I want to feel I know them more than when I came through the door.” Galway will see why with three headlining shows at #GCF23.
